Minnetonka saw only calm waters ahead as they blew through the first quarter 14-0. They earned first down after first down early in the second quarter, but with one false move, a storm began to brew.
The Skippers nearing another sure touchdown, fumbled the ball on Chaska’s 21 yard line. If the Skippers thought it was calm sailing, they were in for a surprise storm because when you give a bird a little freedom, they take off and soar.
The Hawks proved that they were capable of stirring the waters as senior RB Colin Rust scored the Hawk’s first touchdown off the turnover.
Jalon Hopkins then returned the favor scoring his second touchdown of the night giving Minnetonka another 14 point lead, 21-7.
With fumbles and penalties plaguing both teams, thing remained uneventful until late in the half when Chaska missed a field goal with just three seconds left.
At halftime, Minnetonka had 24 carries for 166 yards, with Hopkins earning 75 yards himself, with a pair touchdowns.
The third seeded Skippers sailed through the second half, winning 41-28.
Next up, Minnetonka will head to Bloomington Jefferson for a 7pm kickoff in the Section 2AAAAA semifinals. The Jaguars beat Prior Lake in round one, 24-7.
