The Skinny

The two-time defending champions from Caledonia return in search of more gold. This is their fourth consecutive appearance and their 13th overall. In addition to the past two years, the Warriors also won titles in 1976, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2012. Pipestone Area returns for after a one-year absence to make its third appearance under this name. The Arrows made two additional appearances as Pipestone in 1977 and 1980. 

Pipestone Area features a stellar passing game. The Arrows completed 127 of 220 pass attempts for 2,312 yards this year. Junior quarterback Cody Thompson threw for 2,054 yards and 23 touchdowns. Senior Tyl Woelber caught 40 of Thompson’s passes for 861 yards and 10 touchdowns. Another senior, Garrett Ploeger, led the rushing game with 903 yards and eight touchdowns. Senior Jordan Batz had six rushing touchdowns for the Arrows and totaled 630 yards. Junior Matt Enger paced Pipestone Area’s defense with 185 tackles, five fumble recoveries, and five interceptions. Junior Braeden Rieck had a team-high 10 interceptions for the Arrows. Pipestone Area averages 30 points per game while their opponents average 11 against them.
