The outcome of Friday's night football game between Cretin-Derham Hall and White Bear Lake didn't surprise anybody. The powerful Raiders defeated White Bear Lake 34-7 in the Suburban East Conference contest at the University of St. Thomas.
Curiosity didn't swirl around the outcome as much as it did around a visitor from on high. Gophers coach Tim Brewster had inquired about arriving at St. Thomas in a helicopter -- turned out the nearest approved landing zone was the nearby State Fairgrounds -- as part of a three-games-in-one-night airborne strategy to combine recruiting with firing up Gophers fans.
Air Brew began the evening by choppering into the Spring Lake
Park-Irondale game, followed with an appearance at the
Wayzata-Minnetonka game -- buzzing the field from low altitude before
landing --and he arrived at St. Thomas during the second half.
