Boys - Class A
Wednesday, Oct. 22 - Two teams punched their ticket to the Metrodome for the boys soccer state semifinal. No. 1 seed Totino-Grace moved on with a 2-0 win over Mounds Park Academy. Paul Yonga and Matt Canton each scored a goal. No. 4 seed Rochester Lourdes will face Totino-Grace in the semifinals after a 2-1 defeat of Breck School. Will Wente scored on a header to give the Eagles the lead for good at 40:54. Kyle Farrell scored the earlier goal for Lourdes, and both boys assisted on the other's goal. T-G and Lourdes will play at noon on Monday, Oct. 27.
Thursday, Oct. 23 - Today gave us the final two schools for the semifinals at Metrodome. The Blake School, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, beat Willmar 2-0 on goals from Joe Ali and Eric Barry. Set to face the Bears in the semifinals is Duluth East, a 2-1 winner over St. Cloud Cathedral. Mitchell Johnson scored two goals, and goaltender Evan Odean had five saves for the Greyhounds.
Girls - Class A
Wednesday, Oct. 22 - Courtney Lynch got St. Cloud Apollo on the board only 11:41 into the game, but the Academy of Holy Angels offense would respond with a mighty effort. Olivia Schultz scored three consecutive goals for No. 2 seed Holy Angels, and Hannah Myott scored a fourth to seal the deal and a trip to the Metrodome on Oct. 27. While Holy Angels breezed to the semifinals, No. 3 seed Benilde-St. Margarets needed two overtimes and a shootout to oust St. Michael-Albertville 1-0 (2OT; 4-3, shootout). B-SM and Holy Angels will play the 10 a.m. game Monday.
Thurday, Oct. 23 - The Rochester Lourdes girls will make the same trip as the boys as the Eagles defeated Albert Lea 2-0. Olivia Muyers scored the game winner at 51:59 and Jessie Wilken added insurance a little less than five minutes later. Lourdes will face Mahtomedi, 2-1 winners over Hermantown, on Monday at 8 a.m. Hannah Frost and Brittany Henry each scored to push the No. 1 seed Zephyrs into the semi's.
Boys - Class AA
Thursday, Oct. 23 - Continuing the trend set by Class A, No. 2 Osseo and No. 3 Coon Rapids both won and will be moving on the the final four at the Dome. Osseo got two goals from Albert Sims and 10 saves from Patrick Amoako to come out victorious over Lakeville North. Coon Rapids will get Osseo next after a 2-0 shuout of St. Cloud Tech. Josh Biernat had a clean sheet as Kyle Davis and Emanual Carr provided the offense. The Osseo/Coon Rapids game will be at 6 p.m. on Monday.
Friday, Oct. 24 - In the only upset of a ranked team in the quarterfinals, boys or girls, St. Louis Park defeated No. 1 seed Apple Valley 1-0 to reserve a spot in the final four. Andrew Johnson scored at the 32:54 mark to send the Orioles to the Dome. SLP will face No. 4 seed Bloomington Jefferson, who defeated Stillwater 1-0 on a Joseph Plutt goal. The St. Louis Park Bloomington Jefferson game will be Monday at 4 p.m.
Girls - Class AA
Thursday, Oct. 23 - No. 2 Eastview and No. 3 Eden Prairie will play the 2 p.m. game Monday at the Metrodome. Eastview slipped by Lakeville South 2-1 on goals from Claire Elliott and Brianne Price. Madeline Russell cut the lead in half at 67:02, but South could not add the game-tying goal. Eden Prairie made a Kelsey Sorensen goal at 45:10 hold up as the Eagles beat Buffalo 1-0.
Friday, Oct. 24 - Woodbury and Wayzata move on to the Dome with wins over Mounds View and Coon Rapids, respectively. Katie Sessions assisted on both Alyssa Duval goals to keep the No. 1 seeded Royals undefeated (17-0-2). The Trojans of Wayzata will face Duval and Woodbury in the semifinals after goals from Taylor Wodnick and Bo Podkopacz gave the Trojans a 2-0 win.
